FAN SPECS & PROPERTIES

Non-Oscillating vs. Oscillating

ea528

Non-Oscillating

A non-oscillating fan does not rotate as it blows out air, so it can only provide a single direction stream of air.

EA526

Oscillating

An oscillating fan can rotate from side to side while blowing air. When oscillating, the fan can produce a breeze throughout the room instead of just blowing in a single direction, thus covering more area.

Diameter

Choosing the proper fan diameter is essential to ensure that it will fit in its designated space. The diameter of your fan also determines the size of blades that it can house. Different blade lengths will then affect the airflow provided by the fan. Longer blades are used in large rooms or spaces and offer a softer airflow than short blades. Shorter blades are ideal in smaller rooms or if you need a more direct airflow.

Matrix Industrial Products offer a great variety of diameters depending on the model.

Open vs. Closed Motor

EA283

Open Motor

When a fan has an open motor, external air can flow above and around the windings. Fans with this type of motor are ideal for indoor applications where it is relatively clean and dry.

EB115

Closed Motor

Contrary to the open motor fan, this type has the motor enclosed and does not allow external air to reach the windings. It does not necessarily mean it is airtight, but it is closed to protect the components from moisture, dust, mechanical damage, or even chemicals.

Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM)

Room Size (sq. ft.) CFM Required
≤ 200 2000 – 3000
200 – 300 3000 – 4000
300 – 450 4000 – 6000
≥ 450 * 5000 – 9000

*If you have a space larger than 450 sq. ft., you should consider installing multiple fans.

TYPES OF FANS

EA290 FLOOR FANS

These types of fans are placed on the floor to cool a space. They are very portable and do not require a permanent installation. They come in all shapes, sizes, and different features, but they are usually lightweight and have a base for support.

EB239 PEDESTAL FANS

Pedestal fans are also floor fans because they can be on the floor instead of affixed on the wall or the ceiling. However, this type of fan is much more elevated as they have a vertical pole with a wide base to help it stand. The majority of pedestal fans are height-adjustable to let the user determine which height works for them best. Matrix Industrial Products offer an array of pedestal fans for home use and workshop use.

EA645 WALL-MOUNTED FANS

Wall-mounted fans are a great space-saving option to cool your space. Although they are placed higher like a ceiling fan, they do not work the same way. A ceiling fan would push the air down, whereas a wall-mounted fan will push the air around the space.

Drum Fans

Drum fans are also known as barrel fans, and they are typically used in industrial settings such as factories, warehouses, or livestock sheds. These fans can produce fast and powerful airflow, which is why it is ideal for use that is more heavy-duty. There are two types of drum fans, direct-drive, and belt‑drive.

EA778

Direct-Drive Drum Fans

Direct-drive drum fans have their blades directly attached to the motor’s shaft or the fan axle, which means the fan blades will rotate as the motor rotates. This type of drum fan usually has a 36-inch or less blade size.

EA662

Belt-Drive Drum Fans

Belt-driven drum fans are designed to handle longer blade lengths, reaching even beyond 60 inches. The motor of drum fans does not directly connect to the blades, but rather a belt connects the motor pulley to another pulley attached to a shaft that drives the fan blades.

Special Features & Specialty Fans

EA829 Misting Fan

It can be used indoors or outdoors and requires a water supply. The water gets released through small vents in the fan, and the blades’ rotation breaks up the water into a fine mist. The mist evaporates and cools the surrounding air.

EB116 Foldable Fan

As the name suggests, this fan can be folded and used as a floor fan. Upright, it can serve as a pedestal fan.

EA527 Box Fan

Portable and cost-efficient way of cooling a space.

EA305 Desk Fans

Versatile and portable, a desk fan is a great way to cool a smaller area, or as the name suggests, your desk space.

EA827 Tower Fan

The narrower build of a tower fan makes it perfect where space is an issue. Moreover, its oscillating feature lets you control the airflow.

EA828 Rechargeable Fan

Matrix Industrial Product's rechargeable fan is ideal for indoors and outdoors. Once charged, this floor fan allows you to bring in places where a power source might not be readily available such as camping. It also includes a USB charging port to let you charge your devices.
